“Transparent Sandbar” reduces the world to a hushed, almost weightless meditation on distance and solitude. A lone Conimicut Lighthouse, tiny and perfectly centered on the horizon, rises from a low emerald-green shoal that seems to float in a sea of liquid blues. The water itself is rendered as translucent horizontal bands (deep cobalt melting into turquoise, then into the palest aqua), creating a sense of crystalline depth that makes the sandbar appear both solid and ghostly, as though one could see straight through it to the ocean floor. Above, the sky is a quiet gradient of rose, peach, and powder blue, its soft pastels mirrored and amplified in the water below, dissolving the boundary between air and sea. There are no waves, no boats, no gulls—only the small, steadfast silhouette of the lighthouse keeping vigil in an immense, breathing stillness. The painting feels like a held breath, a moment when time and tide pause together in perfect, luminous equilibrium.
